Château de Chillon isn’t the best castle, but perhaps the best in Switzerland, and certainly worth a look. The reason I stayed around the west side was to take a day to visit.

I left Gryon for the Montreux train station, then a 50 minute walk along the shore back to Veytaux, where I received the student rate (8 CHF) to enter Château de Chillon. The self-guided tour usually takes one hour, but I spent two hours exploring every nook and cranny, climbing every staircase or rock formation I could find.

Then I walked back through town and just made it for the train back to Bex. Stopped at the bank and then returned to the hostel up in Gryon, picking up a few more groceries on the way. Dinner, organizing photos, and soon it was time for bed.
