Life is about to take another transition, as I prepare to move to Langley, B.C. to serve with Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada. I’ll be there to develop a web application for Human Resources.

A well-timed visit

Today I attended a prayer breakfast with speakers Glenn Driedger and Karen Schenk of… guess where? Campus Crusade for Christ. Glenn is the director of church relations, and came out to Edmonton to speak of the tools and training that Campus Crusade provides. Karen, the director of TruthMedia, shared her passion to reach the lost and hurting with email-based mentoring and prayer connections. They also run 140 chat-based small groups. Combined, these two have me even more pumped about going to work with Campus Crusade for Christ this May.

I’ve had many thoughts and dreams of using the Internet to complement church small groups, as well as reaching out to the hurting through the provision of prayer. I’m also interested in how Campus Crusade is empowering the church through e-learning. One of my hobbies is studying Hebraic culture… there is just so much to learn and share about the Bible. This really sounds like a place I would like to be involved in the future.

What a great God we serve, to bring these people here and sit me at their table in the very month that I am preparing to join their organization.

Snail mail

In the generation of e-everything, the last two weeks of designing, printing and sending 150 letters has been a bit different. But hey, I need to let everyone know about my opportunity at Campus Crusade for Christ. A number of people helped me with editing, but I would especially like to thank Gilbert at my Dad’s printshop, who helped me with the various printers, as well as the cutter and folder.

There are a number of friends and acquaintances which I am in the process of emailing because it’s the only contact information I have.

Faith’s opportunity

In 10 days all the funding must be in for my 4-month co-op in Langley. I also need to find accommodations, prepare to move, and complete a freelance project. Yikes!

If 100% of the people I contacted wanted to be involved, it wouldn’t take very much each to reach $6700 CDN (minimum $5600 to go, plus some extra for the staff conference, travel expenses, etc.) It doesn’t sound so bad, but in reality, I have one cheque in so far (from my loving Mom). Sounds like an opportunity to trust God?

I’ve been so busy doing everything to make this happen (with still more to do), that I need to consciously remind myself that it’s about God’s provision and not a matter of my effort. On the positive side, newsletters are just reaching people now, and I have already received some interest in supporting my work. Soon I will begin phoning people, which is a great excuse to catch up with friends I haven’t seen in a while.
