Detour
15.09.05
Waking at 6 am, got ready and had breakfast, checked my e-mail again out the way out, and stopped in at the bank and the bakery (for a sandwich for later).
On the train, I sat with all Japanese people — Noa, who spoke some English and a couple that didn’t speak much. That must be difficult while travelling, but they had big smiles and were definitely enjoying themselves. Across from us was an elderly German couple — informative and pointing out many things. And later, joined by an authentic Swiss gentleman named Fabian. Amongst other things, he suggested a hostel his brother stayed at once in Lenzerheide.
Already feeling tired, I decided to abandon my journey to St. Moritz and take him up on the suggestion. Stopping in Chur, I purchased some groceries before catching a postal bus to Vabella — a town in the Lenzerheide region.
I enjoyed some female companionship — Dahlia who was checking in when I was — helped me make supper (halibut — lightly battered, whole grain rice, sauteed zucchini, and red peppers). We sat down to eat looking out towards the mountains and then went for a pleasant walk in the twilight. Talking about our travels and life in general. The town we are in has Romansch (Latin-derived) roots, with street names and other text appearing to be Romansch.
My roommates were two Swiss brothers, Matt and Gabriel, who were down from Basel to go mountain biking — and I do mean, biking down the mountain! As well as Roland, who lives in Germany but works in Chur as a civil engineer. This seems fairly popular, because working in Switzerland pays well, but it is also expensive to live here.
