walk together

10.05.07

I have a confession to make. I have become somewhat addicted to social networking site Facebook. It’s really amazing how many friends and acquaintances are on there, even people who’s contact information I don’t have. Last year my roommate invited me to sign up, but until this week I had not posted any photo albums or even my interests. Now it’s like a second home. ;-)

Community is really important, whether online or offline. I find that religion puts too much emphasis on a “personal” walk with Christ. The decision is our own, but the walk is not meant to be alone.

After church on Sunday, I went to Nando’s and later watched Spider-man 3 with a fellow who is my age and shares an interest in Hebrew culture in Biblical study.

Last night I was able to attend an Alpha course in Abbotsford. It was quite different from the first one I visited in Buchs, Switzerland. A lot… bigger. I met a cool 15-year old with a vibrant purple mohawk. There is no question that God is at work in her life. The free meal and live music may be the hook, but the real draw is the people you met last week. I’m hoping to go again, and to have the opportunity to speak into the lives of people I met.

Today I visited the Campus Crusade for Christ office for the first time. Near 40 new staff were being commissioned, most of which will be serving on University campuses across Canada. I had the opportunity to introduce myself and encourage everyone who is beginning to raise funds. God has blessed me with wonderful sponsors in an amazingly short period of time.

It’s really great to share with people from our knowledge and experiences. If you think you have nothing important to share, you may surprise yourself when you step out.

“It is only by giving generously from the well of our knowledge that we discover how deep that well is.” - Henri Nouwen

We did a tour of the office, which allowed me to meet some staff members of the various ministries of Campus Crusade for Christ.

Afterwards, I visited the book store with some others. One young couple was perusing “For Men Only” (which I’ve read) and it’s complementary book “For Women Only”. It was wonderful to see them taking an interest in the different make-ups of men and women prior to their marriage, and I’m glad I could highlight some things from the book.

Relationally this week has been a big blessing, and after today I’m even more excited to start work on Monday!
